Reading (K-12) Minor

The Reading Education (K-12) minor  prepares students to diagnose Reading difficulties and teach Reading at all school grades level.  The program focuses on the content of the discipline, as well as, the pedagogical skills necessary for teaching in a school classroom.  In order to teach with a minor students must also have an Education major in another area.

III. Teacher Licensure

To obtain teacher licensure in Reading K-12, a student must complete:

IV. Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program and Student Teaching

Students pursuing a major in any Teacher Education Program must be accepted to the program.  See Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program for specific details. 

In order for students to student teach, they must submit an application.  See Admission to Student Teaching for specific details.

Note:

  2. All Reading K-12 students must meet the following requirements: 1) earn a grade of “C-” or better in all Professional Education Requirements, Minor Program Requirements, and Other Program Requirements; 2) earn a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average, and 3) earn a minimum 2.65 grade point average in Minor Program Requirements, Other Program Requirements, and Professional Education Requirements.
