Academic Internship Experience
An academic internship experience can offer the benefit of career exploration and be an excellent resume builder. Academic Internships at Carroll College are an opportunity for students to apply academic knowledge and skills in a real world setting. An academic internship is a supervised work experience and forms an academic relationship among a student, faculty internship advisor, and cooperating organization.
Juniors and seniors (60+ earned credits) may participate with the approval of a faculty internship advisor, a site supervisor, and Career Services. Sophomores, may, on occasion request internship credit. An exception is required by Career Services, as well as written approval from the faculty internship advisor from the department, and/or department chair (if necessary) in this case. Students are required to complete an internship proposal, through Handshake, for final approval and registration. Students will receive academic credit, and may or may not receive monetary compensation for an academic internship. A student may apply a maximum of 12 semester hours to degree requirements; academic departments will determine the number of credits that may count toward the major. Enrollment in the course, and credit granted, must be during the same semester in which the work experience takes place. Interested students should contact their academic advisor and Career Services prior to the start of an experience. Please see the Common Terms and Course Numbers information to clarify the appropriate course title.
