Spanish Education (K-12) Minor

I. Minor Program Requirements

Fifteen credits of upper-division courses beyond SP 204:

SP 301	Spanish Conversation I (GD)/(ND)	3
	or
SP 302	Spanish Conversation II (GD)/(ND)	3
SP 303	Intro to Spanish & Lat Am Civ & Culture	3
SP 305	Intro to Spanish & Latin American Lit	3
SP 306	Adv Spanish Grammar & Composition (WI)	3

Plus one of the following courses:

SP 320	Spanish for the Professions	3
SP 401	Topics in Spanish PeninsularCult/Lit-GD	3
SP 403	Topics in Latin Am Culture & Lit I (GD)	3
	or
SP 404	Latin Am Lit & Culture II(GD)or (ND)	3
SP 410G	Topics in Spanish & Latin American Film	3

II. Other Program Requirements

Required classes:

LL 400	Theories/Methods Lrng/Tch Lang	3
PSY 227	Child Psychology	3
	and
PSY 228	Adolescent Psychology	3
	or only
PSY 203	Developmental Psychology	3

And successful participation in an approved program of study in a Spanish speaking country for at least one summer session or semester.

III. Teacher Licensure

To obtain teacher licensure in Spanish K-12, a student must complete:

ED 408	Student Teaching in the Minor Area	5
	or
ED 410	Student Teaching	12

IV. Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program and Student Teaching

Teacher Education Program: Students pursuing academic programs that lead to teacher licensure must seek admission to the Teacher Education Program by the end of their sophomore year.

Student Teaching: In the spring semester of the junior year, all students must seek admission to student teaching.

Note:

1. All Spanish (K-12) students must meet the following requirements: 1) earn a grade of “C-” or better in all Professional Education Requirements, Minor Program Requirements, and Other Program Requirements; 2) earn a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average; 3) earn a minimum 2.65 grade point average in Minor Program Requirements and in Other Program Requirements; 4) earn a minimum 2.65 grade point average in Professional Education Requirements.
