Pre-Law Pathway
DR. ALEX STREET, PRE-LAW ADVISOR
The Pre-Law Pathway at Carroll College prepares students to think and communicate critically, provides a variety of subject areas to explore, and allows for hands-on experience with legal professionals in the community. A common misconception is that pre-law candidates must study political science; this is not true. Instead, law schools are looking for strong students who have demonstrated an ability to read, write, and think critically. For example, national statistics show that biology, history, and English majors gain acceptance into at least one law school at rates comparable to—or exceeding—that of political science students.
Carroll College has two, 3+3 accelerated pathway partnerships that allow students to attend Carroll for three years and at the conclusion of their junior year, and upon successful application, matriculate to either Gonzaga Law School or the University of Montana School of Law for three years to complete their JD. Please note that completion of the Pre-Law Pathway does not guarantee that all graduate/professional admission prerequisites have been met, nor does it assure admission into a law degree program. Carroll students pursuing this pathway need to work closely with the appropriate pre-professional advisor, as well as the admission office(s) of all prospective graduate/professional programs.
