French Certificate

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will

·       Improve their French proficiency to an Intermediate-High level, as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)

·       Develop a knowledge of professional French language

·       Acquire cultural competence to allow them to adapt to the diversity of the Francophone workplace

·       Develop strategies to comprehend Francophone matters and to interact with French speakers at work

·       Acquire competency in conventions of the Francophone workplace, including those involving

o   CV’s, cover letters, meeting agendas, job interviews, and contracts

o   Diplomatic protocol, rules, and customs in France, North America, and various African nations

o   Business etiquette, including matters of dress, meals, formal conversation, and conflict resolution


Program Requirements

Students who do not need FR 101 & 102 due to prior French study may complete the certificate in one year.   Students without prior study must take FR 101 & 102 and therefore will need two years to achieve the certificate.
