Mission and Goals
Consonant with the mission of the College, the engineering programs are “dedicated to providing for its students the means for their full realization of a dual goal of vocation and enlightenment.” Society requires competent professionals who can solve contemporary problems by using connections among disciplines, especially the humanities, engineering and technology, and the sciences. The engineering programs are designed to blend the unique characteristics of Catholic liberal arts education with preparation for productive and rewarding professional careers. The current engineering programs offered at Carroll are civil engineering with a broadfield emphasis, civil engineering with an environmental emphasis, and the 3-2 engineering program. Additionally, a mathematics degree with a cognate concentration in engineering is available through the mathematics program.
On February 22, 2019, the Carroll College Board of Trustees, through a campus-wide program prioritization process, discontinued the Engineering Science program. Effective Fall 2019, the following majors have been discontinued: engineering science with an engineering mechanics emphasis, engineering science with a flexible emphasis, engineering science with an environment and public health emphasis. New students will not be admitted to the engineering science program; current engineering science students will be taught to graduation with an ABET-accredited degree. More information about the Engineering Science program, including the degree requirements at the time of discontinuance, can be found in the Engineering Science, B.S. section of the 2018-2019 academic catalog.
