2019-2020 Student Handbook

Library Use

To check library material out of the library each student must have a valid barcode issued by the library and attached to the back of the Student ID card. No library material, circulation, or reserves will be checked out without the ID card.

Most library materials (not on reserve) may be checked out for three weeks. Items may be renewed unless there is a request from another student or faculty for the items. There are fines for overdue materials: 20 cents a day per item for regular library materials and $2 a day per item for reserve materials. The first overdue notice is sent the day after the material is due and the second is sent approximately 14 days later. A second notice informs students that their library privileges have been restricted, and that they will be blocked from further loans until the items are returned and any fines are paid. If the items are still not returned, a bill for the replacement of the items will be sent to the student. The fine then becomes $10 per item, process fee $8, plus the current cost of the items. It is important to call the library if the first notice is incorrect or if the student needs to renew the material. If a book is lost or misplaced the student should inform the library so that the fine can be stopped and the library can help locate the book.

Unpaid fines and replacement costs can result in restrictions of library privileges and students’ grades may be withheld until the material is returned or all fines paid. If fines are not paid at the time the materials are returned, a reminder notice will be sent and all fines must be paid by the end of the semester. Unpaid fines will be submitted to the business office for collection.
