Elementary Education K-8, B.A.
The Elementary Education (K–8) major prepares students to teach core academic subjects in kindergarten through eighth grade. The program emphasizes strong content knowledge, effective instructional strategies, and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of learners. Coursework and field experiences develop the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions expected of beginning teachers, in alignment with the Montana Professional Educator Preparation Program Standards (ARM 10.58.532) and national standards such as the InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards. Students progress through a series of field-based experiences, culminating in a full-time student teaching placement. Program benchmarks include demonstrated proficiency in content knowledge, classroom performance during student teaching, and professional dispositions assessed throughout the program. Successful completion of these requirements leads to a recommendation for a Montana teaching license in Elementary Education (K–8).
